The Monastrell

The Monastrell is a “mediterranean” variety that needs a warm climate to ripen. It extends throughout the Levante. In Murcia, its major presence is in DO Jumilla.

This variety presents a High hardiness and drought resistance. It is medium to high sensitivity to downy and powdery mildew. It is resistant to excoriosis, gray mold and moth, showing high resistance to phylloxera. Pie Franco (without american root) still exists. The grape has compact clusters, spherical and small deep black grain. Beautiful bloom, thick-skinned rich in anthocyanins, with a fleshy, soft, colorless and low amount of tannins pulp.
