The Soil

It is a calcareous, sandy and stony soil very poor in nutrients.

However, this soil’s great water-holding capacity retains what little water it receives, essential for this rainfed crop. The soil depth is shallow −around 0.5-0.6 m; the planting is done at 0.8 m depth.
